Week of 10/21/13

The students are working on the story "Dragon, Dragon."  The focus comprehension skills are making inferences, direct and indirect characterization, character traits and motives.  The students will have a test on Wednesday October 23rd.  This will be the last grade for the first marking period.  The students received their tests back.  They can get bonus points if they get each one signed.  On Wednesday, they will receive a story map for the story "Dragon, Dragon."  It is due on Wednesday, October 30th.  This will be the first grade for the second marking period.

Week of 10/7/13

On Monday the students will be reviewing plot, author's perspective, and tone. They will have a test on these skills on Tuesday, October 8th.  We will be reviewing the PSSA terms and author's point of view all week.  They will have a test on these two things on Friday.  Please make sure your child studies the PSSA terms.  We will use the game eggspert on Wednesday and Jeopardy on Thursday to review.  If they know the terms, it will be an easy 100 to help boost their grade.  Have a great week!!!   

Week of 9/30/13

The new stories for this week are "Names/Nombres" and "The Lady and the Spider."  The focus comprehension skills are fact/opinion and tone.  The students will have a test on fact and opinion on Wednesday, October 2nd.  The test for the stories will be on Friday, October 4th. 

The DARE mile is on Saturday, October 5th if anyone is interested.

Week of 9/23/13

We are starting two new stories on Tuesday, Sept. 24th.  The stories are "My Papa, Mark Twain" and "Stage Fright."  The focus comprehension skills are fact/opinion, author's perspective, narrator and point of view.  They will have a test on Friday, September 27th.  Have a great week!

Update 9/17/13

The students received three tests today.  If they get each page signed, they will receive bonus points at the end of the marking period.  The test for the two "Monkeys" stories will be on Monday, September 23rd.

Week of 9/16/13

The students are starting two new stories this week.  They are "Why Monkeys Live in Trees" and "The Case of the Monkeys That Fell From the Trees."   Our focus comprehension skills are fiction and nonfiction.  The test will either be on Friday, September 20th or Monday, September 23rd.  I will keep you posted.

Progress reports will go home on Friday, September 20th.  We have a pep rall on Friday also. 

Week of 9/9/13

The students will be starting a new story called "The Drive-In Movies."  The focus comprehension skills are making predictions, narrator and point of view.  They will have the comprehension test on Friday, September 13th.  The story map from "Stray" is due on Tuesday.

The Book Fair will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday.  The students may buy books during library class this week. (Our homeroom will be on Tuesday.)  Have a great week!!!
