Hope your holidays were super! Now, time to settle in to January. We will be starting a new story called "The All-American Slurp." The students will take the Four Sight tests on Thursday, January 7th. Happy 2010!!!

week of 12/21/09

On Wednesday, December 23rd, we will go to the high school to hear a band concert in the morning. We will have a Christmas party from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday and vacation!!!

week of 12/14/09

We will have D.A.R.E. during reading class on Tuesday. On Wednesday, we will be going to Bloomsburg to see the play "Merry Christmas, George Bailey!" It is based on the Frank Capra film "It's A Wonderful Life." We will see the band and chorus concert on Friday. The students have a test on the PSSA terms on Friday. Have a super week!

week of 12/7/09

There is a PTO meeting on Monday, December 7th at 6:30 p.m. Please notice that there are slight changes on the December calendar. The students will have a test on Tuesday, December 8th. The story is "Zlateh the Goat." On Wednesday, December 9th we will be going to Bloomsburg to see the play "Merry Christmas, George Bailey!" It is based on the Frank Capra film "It's A Wonderful Life." The students need to bring their own lunch or they can order a bag lunch from the cafeteria. The program for the parents of children in grade 3 - 6 is on Friday, December 11th at 9:30 a.m. at the high school. Have a great week!

Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving! This week we will be starting the story ""Zlateh the Goat." The test will be next Tuesday, December 8th. 11/16/09 - 11/25/09

The students will be taking the 4 Sight tests on Wednesday, November 18th. They will have a comprehension test on Thursday, November 19th. On Friday, November 20th they will be working on a summarizing diagram. On Monday, November 16th we will be studying our PSSA terms. On Tuesday, November 17th we will be playing a game using the PSSA terms.

week of 11/9/09

We are starting a new unit. Our first story is called "Dragon, Dragon." The students will have a benchmark test on Tuesday. There is a Bully Prevention program on Friday. Parent conferences will be on Tuesday and Thursday. Have a great week!

7254 Week of 10/26/09

This week is red ribbon week. On Monday, the students can wear their shirts backwards. Tuesday is crazy sock day. There is an essay contest "Drug Free is the Key." This is voluntary.

The students will have a test on "Names/Nombres" on Monday. On Tuesday, we will start two new stories called "Sound of Summer Running" and "Eleven."

On Friday, we will have the Halloween parties. They will start at 1:30 p.m. There will be a parade around the bus loop starting at 2:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, October 20th, the students will have D.A.R.E. during reading class. We already started a story called "Names/Nombres." We will have a program on Wednesday about Anthracite Heritage. week of 10/12/09 - 7254

The students are lucky! They have a four day weekend. They do not have school on Monday, 10/12 and Tuesday, 10/13. The teachers have an in-service day and an Act 80 day. I will be at meetings all day. They will have a comprehension test on Thursday, 10/15. It will be on the story "My Papa, Mark Twain." They will have the "Brain Show Mania" program on Friday, 10/16. It's a great show!! Have a great weekend!

7254 Week of 9/28/09

We will be working on the stories "Why Monkeys Live in Trees" and "The Case of the Monkeys that Fell from the Trees." The students will have a test on these on Friday, October 2nd. Next week is Fire Prevention Week. Please remember to change your batteries in your smoke alarms. Have a great week!

7254 - Week of 9/14/09

On Tuesday, September 15th the sixth grade students will be going to the book fair to purchase books. On Wednesday, the 16th, the students will have an open book test on the story "Stray".
Don't forget, there is a PTO meeting on Monday, the 14th at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. We will start a new story on Thursday, the 17th.

The new Reading series is now set up online for the students to use. The site is pearsonsuccessnet.com. The student's username is - example - ns1234 (ns is for North Schuylkill and their 4 digit ID #.) Their password is - example - LB1234 (the student's initials in capital letters and their 4 digit ID #) The stories from reading class are all on the website and lots of other neat stuff too! Enjoy!

7254 - Week of 4/27

We're back to normal this week. We will be starting a new story "Seventh Grade" on Monday, April 27th. The comprehension test will be on Thursday, April 30th. We will then start the story "Out of Darkness: The Story of Louis Braille" on Friday. Science fair is also on April 30th from 4 - 6 p.m. for visitors. The students can bring their projects to school on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. They should try to pick them up on Friday. Have a great week!

7254 - 4/14/09 - 4/24

School opens on Tuesday, the 14th after Easter. We will be starting a new story called "Catching the Fire: Philip Simmons, Blacksmith." We will have a "Distance Learning" dealing with baseball hall of fame and math on Thursday April16th. The students will have a test on the story on Monday, April 20th. They will have the end of the unit tests on Tuesday and Wednesday, the 21st and 22nd. They will be going to visit the high school and take 4 Sight Tests on Thursday and Friday - the 23rd and 24th. Change of plans. The test for "A Do It Yourself Project" will be on Monday, 4/6/09. We will start the story "Catching the Fire: Philip Simmons, Blacksmith" after Easter. Have a nice holiday!

7254 - 4/2/09

Everyone had a great time at the Franklin Institute. Running up the Art Museum steps like "Rocky" was a favorite too. The students made up their own inventions. They were terrific! On Friday, April 3rd, the students will have a comprhension test on the story "A Do It Yourself Project." We will be starting the story "Catching the Fire: Philip Simmons, Blacksmith." All students received a new Accelerated Reader book for the 4th marking period. They will need to read two books. The 4th marking period goes really fast and there are many spring activities. Please encourage your child to get it done sooner, rather than later. The students will get out of school @ 1:30 on Wednesday, April 8th. No school on Thursday, Friday and Monday for the Easter break. See you on Tuesday, April 14th. Have a great Easter.

7254 Week of 3/23/09

We will be working on an invention on paper this week to go along with our story. Test on "The Kid Who Invented the Popsicle" on Thursday, March 26th. We will be going to the Franklin Institute on Friday, March 27th. Everyone is to meet at the high school in the lower parking lot. That is where we will board the buses at 7:00 a.m. Student should bring their lunch and snacks or drinks for the bus if interested. (preferably, plastic with lids that can be closed) They will need money if they are planning to buy a souvenir. We are expecting to arrive home to the high school at 5:00 p.m. Have a great weekend!

7254 Week of 3/16/09

No school for students on 3/16/09 - Teacher In-Service Day. The students will be taking the PSSA tests on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday - March 17 - 19. Please make sure your child is well rested and has a good breakfast. Remind them how important it is to do a good job. The last day for accelerated reader for the third marking period is on Friday, March 20th. They should have read two books by then. Have a nice weekend!

7254 Week of 3/2/09 and 3/9/09

We are working on Tall Tales. The students will have a comprehension test on the story "Febold Feboldson" on Tuesday, March 3rd. Starting on Wednesday, March 4th, we will be doing PSSA prep. This will continue through the week of 3/9/09. No school for students on Monday, March 16th. The students will be taking the PSSA tests beginning on Tuesday, March 17th. Have a great weekend! No school on Monday, February 16th. We are starting a new story and a new unit on Tuesday. The test will be on Monday, February 23rd. Family Fun Night is on Thursday, February 19th from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Progress reports are to go home on Friday, February 20th.

7254 Week of 2/9/09

The students will have an open book test on "The Skill of Pericles" on Tuesday, February 10th. They will have the end of the unit tests on Wednesday and Thursday. (Holistic and Skills Assessment) They can review the vocabulary words on practice book pages 72, 81, 90, 99 and 107 for the skills assessment test. There will be a program on Thursday afternoon and Valentine parties on Friday at 1:30. No school on Monday, February 16th. Happy Valentine's Day!

The students will take the 4 Sight tests on Thursday and Friday, 1/29/09 and1/30/09. They will have an open book test on the story "The Greeks and the Romans" on Tuesday, 2/3/09. We will then start the play "Skill of Pericles". Don't forget to read your accelerated reading books.

7254 Week of 1/26/09

The students will be taking the 4 Sight Tests during Reading class on Tuesday and Wednesday. (January 28th and 29th) They will have an open book test on the story "Greeks and Romans" on Monday, February 2nd. They are expected to read two accelerated books during the 3rd marking period. They must be at least a 4th grade level and be worth 4 points.
