Week of 5/8/17

The students will have a test on "The Phantom Tollbooth I" on Wednesday, May 10th.  We will be practicing analogies and author's purpose on Tuesday.  They will have a test on these skills on Thursday, May 11th.

Week of 4/24/17

On Monday, we will be starting a play called "The Phantom Tollbooth."  The focus comprehension skills are drama, acts, scene, dialogue, script, point of view and stage directions. 

Math PSSAs are on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Week of 4/17/17

The students will have a test on "To the Top of Everest" on Wednesday, April 19th.  We will be reviewing comprehension skills on Thursday.  The skills are drawing conclusions, compare/contrast, theme and author's style.  They will have a test on these skills on Friday, April 21st.

Week of 4/10/17

We started a new story called "To the Top of Everest."  The focus comprehension skill is central idea.  The test for this will be during the week of April 17th.

The students worked hared on the PSSA's.  Great job!

Week of 4/3/17

English Language Arts PSSA's will be on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week.
Please make sure your child gets a good night's sleep and has breakfast.  Tell them to put forth their best effort.

Week of 3/27/17

The students will have a test on Prefixes and suffixes on Wednesday, March 29th.  We are reviewing all PSSA/Common  Core terms and skills this week. 

PSSA tests are next week.  Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

week of 3/20/17

On Monday the students had time to work on their story maps during class.  The story maps are due on Tuesday, March 21st.  The students received a PSSA/Common Core terms paper.  They will have a test on these terms on Friday, March 24th.  On Friday, the students will receive a prefix/suffix paper.  They will have a test on these on Thursday, March 30th.

Week of 3/13/17On Monday

On Monday, the students worked on a new story map.  It is due on Tuesday, March 21st.  We will be starting a new story called "To the Top of Everest."  The focus comprehension skill is central idea.  I don't know when the test will be.  It depends on the snow.  Be safe and warm.

Week of 2/27/17

The students will have a test on "Mission Twinpossible" on Tuesday, February 28th.  We will start a new story on Wednesday.  It is called from "Tales From the Odyssey."  The focus comprehension skills are universal theme and epic.  The test will be next week.

NO school Monday - President's Day!

The students will have a test on figurative language skills on Wednesday, February 22nd.  We will start a new story called "Mission Twinpossible" on Wednesday.  The focus skills are central idea and inferences.  The test for that story will be during the week of 2/27/17.

Week of 2/13/17

We are working on figurative language - alliteration, simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, onomatopoeia and idioms.  They have a terms test on Wednesday, February 15th.

The test for "The Importance of Imagination" will be on Tuesday, February 7th.

Week of 1/30/17

The students will be starting a new story on Tuesday, January 31st.  It is called "The Importance of Imagination."  The focus comprehension skills are reflective essay, author's influences, central idea and making inference.  The test for this story will be on Friday, February 3rd.  They will have a character traits test on Tuesday, January 31st.  They will have to write down 25 character traits.  Make sure they study their list.

The test for "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" will be on Thursday, January 26th.  On Friday, we will be working on character traits and figurative language.  They will  have a test on character traits next week.  They will have to write down 25 character traits for the test.

Week of 1/17/17

The students will have a test on "Is Our Gain Also Our Loss?" on Thursday, January 19th.  They will start a new story called "from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland."  The focus comprehension skills are direct and indirect characterization and making inferences.  The test will be on Thursday, January 26th.

Week of 1/9/17

The students will have a test on "The Fun They Had" on Tuesday, January 10th.  They also have a story map that is due on Tuesday.  The new story will be "Is Our Gain Also Our Loss?"   The comprehension skill is Reflective Writing.  The test for this story will be on Wednesday, January 18th.

There is a teacher In-Service  day on Monday, January16th.  No school for students.

Week of 1/3/17

On Tuesday, the students received a story map paper.  They had some time in class to work on it.  It is due on Tuesday, January 10th.  On Wednesday, we started a story called "The Fun They Had."  The focus comprehension skills are science fiction and theme.  The test will be on Tuesday, January 10th.
