Week of 12/17/12

The students will be working on  PSSA skills on Monday.  On Tuesday, they will be working on multiple meaning words.  On Wednesday and Thursday, they will be reviewing the PSSA terms using the game of Jeopardy.  They have an early dismissal on Friday at 1:00 p.m.  I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!  School will reopen on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.  Happy New Year!

Week of 12/10/12

The students are working on two stories this week.  They will be comparing the two literary works.  They are "The Fun They had" and "Feathered Friend."  The focus comprehension skills are setting and theme.  The test will be on Thursday, December 13th.  They will have a test on the PSSA terms on Friday, December 14th.  They will also be working on multiple meaning words.  We will be going to see the high school band/chorus concert on Friday. 

Week of 12/3/12

We are working on the story "Aaron's Gift."  The focus comprehension skills are drawing conclusions and setting.  The test will be on Thursday, December 6th.  We are very happy to be going to see the play "A Christmas Carol" (Scrooge) at the Alvina Krause theatre in Bloomsburg on Wednesday.  Please dress accordingly.  Thank you to the school board for allowing us to go to this very special show!  Progress reports will be given on Friday, December 7th.  Have a great week!

Week of 11/27/12

I hope everyone's Thanksgiving was super!  We are starting a new story on Tuesday, November 27th.  The story is called "Aaron's Gift."  The focus comprehension skills are drawing conclusions, setting and plot.  The test will be on Tuesday, December 4th.  The students should also study the PSSA terms.  They will have a test in a few weeks.  Have a great week!

Week of 11/12/12

The student are working on the story "The All American Slurp."  The focus comprehension skills are drawing conclusions and theme.  The test will be on Thursday, November 15th.  The students should get their tests  signed this week for extra bonus points.  On Friday and Monday they will be working on comprehensions skills - metaphors, simile, alliteration, onomatopeioa, cliches, hyperbole, idiom and personification.  Have a great week!

Week of 11/5/12

The students reviewed the PSSA terms on Monday with the game of Jeopardy.  The test on the PSSA terms is on Tuesday.  They will be starting a new story on Wednesday.  The name of the story is "The All American Slurp."  The focus comprehension skills are drawing conclusions and theme.  The students do not have school on Friday, November 9th. The test for the new story will be on Wednesday, November 14th.  Have a great week!!!

10/26/12 - Update

The PSSA test will be on Thursday, November 1st.  The Halloween parties were changed to Friday, November 2nd.  This is due to the storm "Sandy."  Stay dry!!!

Week of 10/29/12

The test for "Zlateh the Goat" will be on Tuesday, October 30th.  The story map for "Dragon, Dragon" is due on Tuesday.  The Halloween parties will be on Wednesday, October 31st.  The parade is scheduled for @ 2:15 p.m.  We will be playing Jeopardy with our PSSA terms on Thursday.  The students will have a test on the PSSA terms on Friday, November 2nd.  Have a great week!   

Week of 10/22/12

The students will take the test "Dragon, Dragon" on Monday, October 22nd.  They will have a drug prevention program during reading class on Tuesday.  The students will start a new story on Wednesday called "Zlateh the Goat."  The focus comprehension skills are using prior knowledge to make inferences and internal and external conflict/resolution.  They will have a walk for diabetes on Friday, October 26th.  Have a great week!

Week of 10/15/12

The students are working on a story called "Dragon, Dragon."  The comprehension skills are direct and indirect characterization and making inferences.  The students had DARE  in class on Tuesday.  We have and Act 80 Day on Friday, October 19th.  Dismissal is at 11:45.  Wear pink if you are going to the game on Friday.  They will have the test on "Dragon, Dragon" on Monday, October 22nd.  Have a great week! 

Week of 10/9/12

On Tuesday, we will be reviewing all of our comprehension skills.  On Wednesday, we will have a test on these skills.  (Plot, author's perspective and tone)  We are also reviewing point of view (first, second, third person limited and third person omniscient)  They will have a test on point of view on Thursday.  We will start working on the story "Dragon,Dragon" on Thursday.  Have a great week!

Week of 10/1/12

The students will be working on two stories this week.  They are "Names/Nombres" and "The Lady and the Spider."  Our focus comprehension skills are fact/opinion and tone.  The students will have a test on these two stories on Friday, October 5th.  The after school program starts on Monday, October 1st.  We are having a pep rally on Friday, October 5th.  Have a great week!

Week of 9/24/12

The students will be starting two new stories called "My Papa, Mark Twain" and "Stage Fright."  The first story is written by Susy Clemens about her father, Mark Twain.  The second story is written by Mark Twain about the first time he had stage fright.  The focus comprehension skills are fact/opinion and author's perspective.  They will have a test on Friday, September 28th.  Progress reports will go home on Friday also.  Have a great week!

Week of 9/17/12

We will be working on two new stories this week.  They are "Why Monkeys Live in Trees" and "The Case of the Monkeys That Fell From the Trees."  The focus comprehension skills are fiction, nonfiction and compare and contrast.  The students will have a test on Friday, September 21st.  Have a great week! 

Week of 9/10/12

The story map is now due on Wednesday, September 12th.  The students will have some time to work on it in class on Monday.  We are starting a new story called "The Drive-In Movies."  The test for the story will be on Friday, September 14th.  Have a great week!!! 

Change of plans

The test for the story 'Stray" will be on Thursday, September 6th.  The students will also receive a paper to do a story map about "Stray."  It will be due on Tuesday, September 11th.  The students will have some time to work on it during class.  Have a great week!

I hope everyone had a very enjoyable holiday.  The students are wqrking on their first story called "Stray."  The focus comprehension skills are making predictions and plot.  Plot includes:  exposition, conflict, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution.  The students will have a test on this story on Friday, September 7th.  School pictures will be taken on Friday, September 7th.  Have a great week!

The students will have a test on Wednesday, April 4th. This will be on the four fables and folk tales that we have been working on in class. I hope everyone has a terrific Easter vacation.

On Tuesday, March 27th, the students will have a test on "Oranges" and "Ode to Family Photographs." We will be reviewing our comprehension skills on Wednesday. We will have a test on these skills on Thursday, March 29th. We will start working on fables and folk tales on Friday. Have a great week!

Sixth grade did a great job on the PSSAs. I am proud of them. This week we will be starting Unit 4 Poetry. We will be doing all of the skills and poems in this unit. We will have a test on "Oranges" and "Ode to Family Photos" on Tuesday, March 27th. Have a great week!

The students are working very hard on the PSSA tests. The last test will be on Monday, March 19th. Make sure your child sleeps well and has a good breakfast. Have a great week!

Week of 3/5/12

The students will be preparing for the PSSA tests next week. On Thursday, we will be playing Jeopardy to review our PSSA terms. On Friday, March 9th, the students will have a test on the PSSA terms and vocabulary in context. DARE graduation is on Wednesday, March 7th at 7:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The students should be there at 6:45 p.m. They should wear dress code appropriate pants and their DARE shirt. Please encourage your child to do their very best on the PSSA tests next week. Make sure they go to bed early and have a good breakfast. Have a great week!

Week of 2/27/12

The students will have a comprehension test on "Langston Terrace" on Monday, March 27th. We will be working on PSSA terms, skills, etc. this week. The students should be studying their terms. They will have a test on the terms soon. Friday is "Read Across America Day." Students from Bloomsburg University will be visiting to do Dr. Seuss Activities. The students need to have 10 Accelerated Reader points by the end of the marking period. Have a great week!

The students will be working on the PSSA skills this week. We will be doing several PSSA packets. The Valentine party is on Tuesday, February 14th. The story map from "Jackie Robinson: Justice At Last" is due on Thursdy, February 16th. The students do NOT have school on Friday, February 17th or Monday, February 20th. Have a great week!

We will be focusing on comprehension skills all week. On Monday and Tuesday, we will be reviewing the skills that we learned. On Wednesday and Thursday, we will be taking tests on these skills. The students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m. on Friday, January 27th. Have a great week!

The students are reading a story called "Zlata's Diary." This is also an excellent novel that they can read for accelerated reader points. Our focus comprehension skills are nonfiction, and author's role, influence, style and purpose. They will have a test on this story on Friday. Have a great week!

Week of 1/9/12

The students are working on two stories called "The Fun They Had" and "Feathered Friends." They will have a test on these two stories on Wednesday, January 11th. The students will have DARE during reading class on Tuesday. The students are supposed to have 10 points for accelerated reading. This is due on Friday, January 13th. It counts as a grade.
