12/15/10 - 12/23/10

The students are working on their play for Mr. Kessler. They are also studying their PSSA terms paper for a test on Friday. We will be seeing the band and chorus conert on Friday at the high school. The high school will have a band concert for us on Tuesday. The Christmas parties are from 1:30 - 3:00 on Wednesday, December 10th. We have an early dismissal on Thursday at 11:45 a.m. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday and a Happy New Year! We'll be back in school on Monday, January 3rd.

The comprehension test for "All American Slurp" has been changed to Thursday, December 9th.

We had a great time at the play in Bloomsburg last week. The children were amazed. We will have a comprehension test on Wednesday, December 8th on the story "The All American Slurp." Next week will be very busy with rehearsals and Christmas shows. Have a great week!

Week of 11/16/10 and 11/22/10

Hope the students enjoyed their 3 day weekend. We are doing the 4Sight test on Wednesday and Thursday. We will have a comprehension test on Zlateh the Goat on Friday, November 19th. We will be doing a special "following directions" project on Monday, November 22nd. Ask you child about it when they get home. The students will have an early dismissal on Wednesday, November 24th. They will be dismissed at 11:45. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!

On Tuesday we will be reviewing our comprehension skills. It is a practice for the test on Wednesday. The comprehension skills are tone of the story, plot of the story and the author's perspective. The students have to do a story map of the story "Dragon, Dragon." It is due on Wednesday, November 10th. We will be starting a new story on Thursday. It is called "Zlateh the Goat." Have a super week!

Week of 10/25/10

The students will have a comprehension test on "Names/Nombres" and "The Lady and the Spider" on Monday, October 25th. They will have a test on fact and opinion on Tuesday, October 26th. We will start a new story called "Dragon, Dragon" on Thursday, October 28th. The Halloween parties are on Friday, October 29th in the afternoon. Please come to see the parade at 2:00 pm.

Monday, October 11th is an inservice day - No school for students! Tuesday, October 12th is anAct 80 Day - No school for students. On Thursday, October 14th, the students will have a test on "My Papa, Mark Twain" and "Stage Fright." On Friday, October 15th, the students will have a test on the PSSA terms paper that they received on Tuesday, October 5th. Enjoy the four day weekend!!!

We will start two new stories on Tuesday. They are "My Papa, Mark Twain" and "Stage Fright."

The students will have a comprehension test on Monday on the story "Stray." There were printer issues so it had to be postponed. They are also working on a story map of "Stray." It is due on Wednesday, the 15th. We will have Math 4Sight testing on Tuesday and Reading 4Sight testing on Wednesday. Please make sure they get a good night's sleep and have a good breakfast. On Tuesday, we will be starting a new story called"Drive-In Movies." Have a Great weekend!!!

Week of 5/24/10

Sixth grade is very busy this week. The carnival is on Monday, May 24th. Dress code - gym attire. On Wednesday, May 26th, we will have a veterans program and we will be putting flags at the cemetery. Sixth Grade Graduation is on Thursday, May 27, 2010. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., Students need to be there by 6:15 and graduation begins at 6:30 p.m. The sixth grade picnic will be on Friday, May 28th. The students can wear gym attire. Each child is to bring in $2.50 for the picnic. This will help defray the cost. Thank you! Have a great weekend!

The students had a Teens Against Tobacco program on Monday. We are working on folk tales. They will have a test on Wednesday on The tortoise and wishes stories. We will practice comprehension skills on Thursday and have a test on Friday. Have a great week.

The students will have a comprehension test on "Arachne" on Monday, May 3rd. They will have a test on Wednesday on comprehension skills that we have been doing all year. We will be starting a story called"Why the Tortoise's Shell is Not Smooth." We will be visiting the high school on Friday and eating our lunch there. We will have a test on Poetry on Monday, March 29th. We will be doing a play called "The Phantom Tollbooth" on Tuesday. Starting on Wednesday, we will be practicing our PSSA skills. We have no school on Friday, April 2nd. Have a great Easter!

Test on Poetry on Wednesday, March 24th. We will be going on the field trip to the Franklin Institute on Thursday, March 25th. We will be leaving at 7:00 a.m. and returning at 5:00 p.m. Students need to have a ride to and from school on that day. Please have your students at the lower level high school parking lot by 6:45 a.m. Parents can park in that parking lot closer to the dock, away from the pool area. Thank you!

Week of 3/15/10

The students will have a PSSA terms - Unit 2 test on Monday, March 15th. If they know their terms, this could be a chance to get a 100% and pull up their grade. They have a summarization chart due on Tuesday. It will count for a grade. This is another chance to boost their grade in reading. Four Sight tests will be given on Tuesday, March 16th. Wear green on Wednesday! Happy St. Patrick's Day. Spring pictures will be taken on Thursday, March 17th. Bring your smiles! Have a great week!

The students are working on a story called "The Pigman and Me." They will have a comprehension test on Friday, March 12th. They will have a test on the PSSA terms - Unit 2 on Monday, March 15th. They have a summarizing chart due on Tuesday, March 16th. They have been aware of these things for 8 days. They also had time to work on these in class. Please make sure they study their terms. We will be working on a story called "Langston Terrace." It is an autobiography. We are concentrating on main ideas, details and author's influence. The students will have a test on Friday, March 6th. We will be celbrating Dr. Seuss' birthday on Friday. Students from Bloomsburg University will be joining us. Have a great week!

This week we will be doing a story about Abraham Lincoln. It is very informative. We are also talking about biographies and autobiographies. We will be studying our PSSA terms. Test on Friday on these terms. Have a great week!

We will be reading about Helen Keller this week. The name of the story is "Water." Students will have a comprehension test on Friday. We will also read a story called "Hard As Nails." There is a PTO meeting on Monday at 6:30. Groundhog Day is on Tuesday. Wednesday is the 100th day of school. Wow! We're more than half way through the year. Have a great week!

Last week of January - Yeah!!! The students will have a comprehension test on the story "Aaron's Gift" on Tuesday, January 26th. We will be starting a new Unit. The first story is called "Zlata's Diary." It's a great story and is taken from the novel. It would be a good novel to read for Accelerated Reader. Have a great week!

No school for students on Monday, January 18th - teacher in-service day. We will begin a new story called "Aaron's Gift" on Tuesday. The district spelling bee is on Friday, January 22nd at the high school. Report cards will go home on Friday, January 22nd. Have a great week!

We will be having a comprehension test on the story "The All-American Slurp" on Wednesday, January 13th. We will be doing a review of comprehension skills on Thursday and have a test on comprehension skills on Friday, January 15th.

Just some update information. Our field trip is scheduled for Thursday, March 25th to the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. Graduation for sixth grade will be on Friday, May 28th.
