I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and vacation. On Tuesday, January 3rd the sixth grade classes will be doing the DIBELS test during reading class. We will start on Wednesday with comparing literary works. Our two new stories are "The Fun They Had" and "Feathered Friend." Our comprehension skills will be comparing settings and themes. It's a busy week at the elementary. We are preparing for the concert. The third through sixth grade concert will be on Thursday, December 15th at 9:30 a.m. in the high school auditorium. The band and chorus concert will be held on Wednesday, December 14th at 7:00 pm. We are finishing our accelerated reader book "Number the Stars." We are also working on our PSSA Buckle down books. Sixth grade students will go to Santa's shop on Monday, December 5th. They will have a test on the story "Aaron's Gift" on Monday, December 5th. On Wednesday, December 7th we will be going to the Alvina Krause theatre in Bloomsburg to see Truman Capote's play called "Holiday Memories." This will be a wonderful experience for the students. Progress reports go home on Friday, December 9th. We are reading the novel "Number the Stars." This can be used for accelerated reader points. The students need to get 10 points per marking period. We are also working on our PSSA Buckle Down books. The students need to study their PSSA terms 2 paper.

On Monday the sixth grade reading classes will be following directions. They will be making a Thanksgiving treat. The best part is eating it when they are finished. On Tuesday, we will continue to read our novel "Number the Stars." The students will be getting out early on Wednesday the 23rd. Dismissal will be at 11:45 a.m. No school - Thursday, Friday and Monday. I will see the students again on Tuesday, November 29th. I hope everyone has a terrific Thanksgiving!!!

The students worked on PSSA prep skills from their book on Monday. On Tuesday we did a review of PSSA terms using a jeopardy game. Wednesday they had a test on PSSA terms. The children received a story map to do for "Dragon, Dragon." This will be used as a grade and is due on Tuesday, November 1st. On Thursday and Friday we will be working on PSSA Buckle Down books. They will have an end of the unit test on vocabulary in context. Halloween parties begin at 1:45 pm on Friday afternoon. The parade will start at 2:15 pm.

We will be starting two new stories. They are "Names/Nombres" and "The Lady and the Spider." Our focus comprehension skills are Fact/Opinion and the Tone of the story. The students will have a test on Fact and Opinion on Wednesday, October 5th. They will have a comprehension test on the two stories on Friday, October 7th. There is a Sixth Grade Fun Night on Friday, October 7th from 6 to 9 pm at the high school. There will be basketball, volleyball, swimming, dodgeball and movies. It is free. Sixth grade is very busy this week. The carnival is on Monday, May 24th. Dress code - gym attire. On Wednesday, May 26th, we will have a veterans program and we will be putting flags at the cemetery. Sixth Grade Graduation is on Thursday, May 27, 2010. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., Students need to be there by 6:15 and graduation begins at 6:30 p.m. The sixth grade picnic will be on Friday, May 28th. The students can wear gym attire. Each child is to bring in $2.50 for the picnic. This will help defray the cost. Thank you! Have a great weekend!

We will be reading about Helen Keller this week. The name of the story is "Water." Students will have a comprehension test on Friday. We will also read a story called "Hard As Nails." We will be having a comprehension test on the story "The All-American Slurp" on Wednesday, January 13th. We will be doing a review of comprehension skills on Thursday and have a test on comprehension skills on Friday, January 15th.

Just some update information. Our field trip is scheduled for Thursday, March 25th to the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. Graduation for sixth grade will be on Friday, May 28th.

It is based on the Frank Capra film "It's A Wonderful Life." We will see the band and chorus concert on Friday. The students have a test on the PSSA terms on Friday. Have a super week!

This week is red ribbon week. On Monday, the students can wear their shirts backwards. Tuesday is crazy sock day. There is an essay contest "Drug Free is the Key." This is voluntary.

The students will have a test on "Names/Nombres" on Monday. On Tuesday, we will start two new stories called "Sound of Summer Running" and "Eleven."

On Friday, we will have the Halloween parties. They will start at 1:30 p.m. There will be a parade around the bus loop starting at 2:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, September 15th the sixth grade students will be going to the book fair to purchase books. On Wednesday, the 16th, the students will have an open book test on the story "Stray".

We're back to normal this week. We will be starting a new story "Seventh Grade" on Monday, April 27th. The comprehension test will be on Thursday, April 30th. We will then start the story "Out of Darkness: The Story of Louis Braille" on Friday. Science fair is also on April 30th from 4 - 6 p.m. for visitors. The students can bring their projects to school on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. They should try to pick them up on Friday. Have a great week!

Everyone had a great time at the Franklin Institute. Running up the Art Museum steps like "Rocky" was a favorite too. The students made up their own inventions. They were terrific! On Friday, April 3rd, the students will have a comprhension test on the story "A Do It Yourself Project." We will be starting the story "Catching the Fire: Philip Simmons, Blacksmith." All students received a new Accelerated Reader book for the 4th marking period. They will need to read two books. The 4th marking period goes really fast and there are many spring activities. Please encourage your child to get it done sooner, rather than later. The students will get out of school @ 1:30 on Wednesday, April 8th. No school on Thursday, Friday and Monday for the Easter break. See you on Tuesday, April 14th. Have a great Easter.

We will be working on an invention on paper this week to go along with our story. Test on "The Kid Who Invented the Popsicle" on Thursday, March 26th. We will be going to the Franklin Institute on Friday, March 27th. Everyone is to meet at the high school in the lower parking lot. That is where we will board the buses at 7:00 a.m. Student should bring their lunch and snacks or drinks for the bus if interested. (preferably, plastic with lids that can be closed) They will need money if they are planning to buy a souvenir. We are expecting to arrive home to the high school at 5:00 p.m. Have a great weekend!
